Integrating Vestibular Skills into Yoga/Group Movement Classes

  1. VOR
  2. VOR-connected AKA VOR cancellation
  3. VOR opposed gaze

Eyes STABLE on one point, head movement in four directions (or eight if you return to center each time) vertical, horizontal and diagonals

Great places to add head movement with gaze stabilization are in standing poses: tree, warrior 1,2 &3, triangle, side angle or locomotion like walking. This may be too advanced for some. SAFE BUT CHALLENGING is key. If people feel unsteady or dizzy, regress the position.

Continuum of positions to regress/progress:

  1. lying down
  2. seated (chair or floor)
  3. standing hip width
  4. standing feet touching together
  5. standing staggered stance, closer the feet the greater the challenge
  6. single leg balance
  7. moving, walking, in various single leg positions
